Math Contest Preparation

Set your student up for success by preparing them for national math contests. We’ll help your student learn the advanced math concepts and skills they’ll need to succeed at national competitions, while also building their confidence and motivation.

Many of the best math students achieve early success by participating in national math contests such as MathCounts and American Mathematics Competitions 8 (AMC 8). In this course, we help students prepare for these math contests by teaching them topics like counting, probability, number theory, algebra, geometry, and much more. Students will practice using problems from previous math contests as well as learn the format of math contests such as MathCounts and AMC 8.

Instructor Bio

Jim has participated in many different math competitions, including MathCounts Nationals, AMC 8, AMC 10/12, AIME, USAMO, and ARML Nationals. He represented Washington, D.C. as a member of the top four at MathCounts Nationals when he was in middle school. In high school, he participated in the AMC 10/12 and qualified for the AIME and USAMO tests. Additionally, he represented the state of West Virginia at the ARML National competition.

His previous students have achieved top four in their state for MathCounts and have advanced to MathCounts Nationals. He also has students that have achieved Honor Roll (top 5%) and Distinguished Honor Roll (top 1%) for the AMC 8 as well as students who have scored over 100 and qualified for AIME.

Jim attended Columbia University. In his free time, Jim enjoys cooking as well as cycling.
